Crest of Horovice, Czech Republic

Official crest of the town of Horovice, outside Prague, in Bohemia-Moravia (now the Czech Republic), from whence the Horowitz clan traces its origins back to the 15th century. Horovice was settled by refugee Sephardic Horowitzes -- Levite rabbis, scholars, and community leaders -- who found safe harbor there after fleeing the Inquisition in Medieval Spain. From Horovice, the Horowitz clan spread throughout many regions in Eastern Europe, including Galicia and areas that are now Poland, Russia, and Belarus.
